There are total eight parts of speech :

1. Noun

2.Pronoun

3.Verb

4.Adjective

5.Adverb

6.Preposition

7.Conjunction

8.Interjection

Why are they called parts of speech?

They are called parts of speech because these are the words which make a complete speech. In a speech, only these eight parts are used. In other words, we can say that a speech is divided into eight parts which are called parts of speech.

In some places, articles are also included in parts of speech.
