The major differences between the xylem and the phloem are as follows

Xylem:

1. The Xylem tissue is majorly considered for the transport of water from the roots to different parts of the plant especially the leaves.

2. Only the xylem parenchyma is a living tissue found in xylem.

Phloem:

1. The phloem is responsible for the ‘conduction of starch’ or the ‘food material’ form the leaves to the other ‘parts of the plant’.

2. Whereas phloem consists of the sieve tubes, companion cells and phloem parenchyma that are living.
