12 x - 4 - 1 = 4x + 1/4

Now make the denominator same of 4x and 1/4.........

12 * x - 5    = 4x * 4  + 1

     12                    4

4 (12x - 5) = 12 (16x + 1)

48x - 20  =  12 * 16x + 12

48x -20 = 192x + 12

-20 -12 = 192x - 48x

-32 =  144x

144x = -32

x = -32 / 144

x =  - 2/9
