Explanation:

x/10 + y/5 = 14

=> (x + 2y)/10 = 14

=> x + 2y = 140 _________ eq i

x/8 + y/6 = 15

=> (3x + 4y)/24 = 15

=> 3x + 4y = 360________ eq ii

By elimination method:-

For eliminating y, eq i × 2 - eq ii × 1gives,

2x + 4y = 280

-3x - 4y = -360 (as the signs get changed)

-x = -80

=> x = 80

Putting x=80 in eq i,

x + 2y = 140

=> 80 + 2y = 140

=> 2y = 140 - 80

=> y = 60/2

=> y = 30

Therefore, x = 80 and y = 30.
