(x)=x4 -2x3+3x2 -ax+b is a polynomial such that when it is divided by x-1 and x+1 the remainders are respectively 5 and 19. Determine the remainder when f(x) is divided by (x-2).

f(X) when divided by x -1 gives remainder 5. Therefore, f(1) = 5 by remainder theorem.

f(1) = 14 −2×13 + 3×12 − 1 + b = 5So, 1−2+3−1 + b = 5b +1 = 5b = 4remainder when f(x) is divided by x − 2 = f(2) = 24 −2×23 + 3×22 − 2+ 4 = 14
