add both eqn
x+y=3
4x-y=2
-----------
5x=5
x=1
& by putting the value of x in eqn 1st
1+y=3
y=2

Given Equations are x + y = 3, 4x - y = 2.

(1) x + y = 3.

    x = 3 - y.   --------------- (1)

(2) 4x - y = 2.

Substitute (1) in (2), we get

4(3 - y) - y = 2

12 - 4y - y = 2

12 - 5y = 2

-5y = 2 - 12

-5y = -10

y = 10/5

y = 2.

Substitute y = 2 in (1), we get

x = 3 - y

x = 3 - 2

x = 1.

Therefore the value of x = 1 and y = 2.

Hope this helps!
