Measuring of diameter of a wire using a metre scale is not a good option.You may measure the diameter of a wire using a metre scale. But i bet you it wont be accurate because of the least count error.

Though no measurements are exact but tge measurement taken by the metre scale would have a very large error.So instead of metre scale..use either screw gauge or micrometre gauge.
