if we wound a coil around the soft iron we get a solenoid and behaves like a magnet so we can distinguish by taking that
magnet is permanent and solenoid is temporary

If we are allowed to break the bars, the solution can be found out easily. We just need to break one of the bars into two pieces, and if the broken pieces attract/repel each other, that was the magnet, if they don't, we have broken the iron bar!
