Jenny, Manipur: A fire broke out at Singjamei Bazar yesterday and two people were killed. According to local sources it was 11.30 the bazaar was about to close when there was a short circuit in a furniture shop. The shop was ablaze in a minute due to the spirit bottles keep in the store room. The owner of the shop and his apprentice were trapped inside. Due to flames they could not escape the building. Other shops near the furniture building also caught fire easily. No deaths have been reported from other shops. However three people were partially burnt while escaping.
Three fire brigade and the police arrived twenty minutes later. The firemen took thirty five minutes to put off the fire. Injured people were taken to the nearby district hospital. The casualties were reported to the district magistrate, who arrived at 1.26 am. The district magistrate has announced to give five lakh rupees to the people who lost their lives and one lakh to the shopkeepers whose shops were burnt in the incident.
