Subject: Increasing crimes against the elderly
Dear Sir:
I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over increasing crime and violence against the elderly in our country. Of late there were many cases of crime against them. They are being targeted by robbers and thieves. They have to face lots of harassment almost everywhere. At home they are not treated well by their own family members; and at public places their rights are also being violated.
The Government has made provisions for many facilities for senior citizens at banks, railway stations, bus stands, hospitals, and other places. But I have seen these facilities being deprived to them by none other than the common citizens. The seats meant for senior citizens are occupied by younger people on public buses and trains. The queues meant for senior citizens at banks, hospitals, etc. are used by other people.
Through the medium of your newspaper I appeal to concerned authorities and common people to look into it and take care of the needs of the senior citizens.
Thanking you.
Yours truly,
Rashmi
