The problem with most Indian families is the interference of parents in deciding their child's career; the result of this is rather catastrophic, instead of being facilitators, they end up being destroyers of careers. Since my friend is good in Geography, History and English, he should earnestly aim to sit for the IAS examination and join the country's bureaucracy. He could also pursue a career in teaching. If he continually does well in English, he could think of a career in journalism too; many options would, then, open up for him in television, print or radio as mass media is witnessing phenomenal growth in our country today.
As his parents are not willing to go by his career choices, he should request his teachers to intervene on his behalf or take his parents to a career counsellor. They would then be able to convince them to change their way of thinking.
