Your younger brother enters the room with an expression of annoyance and pain on his face.

You: Hey, Manav, why are you looking down?

Younger Brother: Nothing much! Father has refused to increase my pocket money. The one I get every month is not sufficient. It gets over within a week.

You: Well, what did the father say?

Younger Brother: He chided me for demanding the raise! He said I am already getting enough! He says he cannot spare more as he has to take care of all the family members.

You: Well, if father has said so, he must be right. He is more experienced than all of us. We look at our own problem; he has to look after and provide for the entire family. You must spend your pocket money sparingly and thriftily. You know money is always limited; our wants and desires are unlimited.

Younger Brother: I will try to follow your advice; actually I finish my pocket money because of my friends. They make me spend more and always reluctant to spend their money.

You: You should be wise. You should not let others exploit you or take advantage of your resources. I hope you are not hurt anymore!

Younger Brother: Dad, I want an increase in my pocket money from this month.

Father: I think I am giving you what is enough for a 15 year old.

Brother: This is because you have no idea how much my classmates get from their parents every month.

Father: Well, tell me how much do they get?

Brother: Some of them get Rs.200/- and some even Rs.300/-. My best friend Shyam gets Rs.500/-.

Father: Oh I see. But, I feel that is too much for a child of your age. What do you need so much money for?

Brother: My favorite video games cost much more than you think. Also, unlike my friends, I cannot take them for treats to posh restaurants or cafes.

Father: Tell me something. Do you need to buy video games or take your friends for a treat every month?

Brother: Not exactly. Once in three months may be. The treat could be once in nine to ten months. As for the video game, it may be just one as a yearly purchase.

Father: I have a suggestion how you can do all that you want to with the Rs.100/- I give. Shall I tell you?

Brother: Please tell me what you have in mind.

Father: Say, you do not have any major expense in a month. You will have the Rs.100/- that I give you. The next month you will have a total of Rs.200/-. Imagine how much you can save if you do this every month. Don’t you think that you will be able to do what you wanted with the saved amount?

Brother: Yes Dad! That is a wonderful idea. Thank you for telling me. I will certainly do as you say.
