Zinc is very powerful reducing agent and readily displaces silver present in the complex.

Zn+2 [Ag (CN)2]` = [Zn (CN)4]2` +2Ag

Copper is also more reducing than silver but not is so effective. Moreover, Zinc is cheaper than silver.
