0.1 kg aluminum calorimeter contains 0.2 kg water at 70.6 °C. It is found that the temperature of the
calorimeter and water drops to 20°C in 15 minutes. What is the rate of heat flow to the atmosphere?

Answer:

Heat released by hotter component= heat absorbed by cooler component

Let the thermal capacity of calorimeter be C J/K.

Then,.1×4200×(60−35)=.2×4200×(35−30)+C×(35−30)

⇒5C=4200×1.5⇒C=1260

Hence, thermal capacity is 1260 J/K.
