1. The longitudinal extent of our country India is 68°7'E to 97°25'E. This extent influences the time of eastern/ north- eastern states and of western states. 82°30'E is in middle of 68°7'E and 97°25'E. That's why 82°30'E is selected as the Standard Meridian for the whole country.
