Indian federation: The Indian constitution establishes the federal structure to Indian government. Federal structure in country describes that, The country is to be of "Union of states". There are two types of federation: Coming together federation and Holding together federation.

The features of federalism in India are as follows:

i) Functions and powers of each level of government is guaranteed/ approved by constitution of India.

ii) There are two or more levels of Governments. (Levels are also referred as Tiers)

iii) The supreme court guaranteed the disputes between two federal governments.

iv) Each tier of government has it's own administration, taxation and power of legislation.

v) Each level of government can govern the same citizens in different manners.

vi) No rule or provisions from the constitution can be altered by any level of government.
