Travel and Tourism
"Travel far enough, you meet yourself.” ― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
All of us need some travel and tours now and then in our lives. Travel is the activity of making journey to another geographical location other than where we live. Travel is one of the important activities of our life. We are compelled to travel often because of family functions, meeting friends, and attend official duties. We travel for pleasure on excursions and for visiting touristic places.
“Travel brings power and love back into your life.” ― Rumi
Travel is an important diversion for us from daily mundane routine. Travel teaches us many things that we cannot learn from residing at a place. Travel enriches our knowledge and increases our wisdom. Travel costs some amount. One needs to take precautions and needs to make plans for the journey. However, it is worth making all the arrangements and traveling.
“I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move.” ― Robert Louis Stevenson
About touring and tourism?
Tourism is travelling to various popular touristic and heritage locations in the state, country or world. Tourism helps us to learn the good history and rich cultural heritage that our ancestors have given us. Tourism helps us to learn our own land. We can really enjoy tourism as various facilities are provided at each location. The hotels, conveyance, restaurants and public transport etc. All one has to do is to book well in advance for all the facilities. It costs a lot, but tourism allows one to see what we study in our lessons. We learn a lot of practical issues, see different cultures, interacting with people of multiple back grounds and manners.
Most of the employees are given a chance to take a tour along with their family by a scheme called Leave travel Allowance. One can get all the information on the touristic spots through Internet, or by contact government tourism department, or travel agencies.
In India, travel and tourism is not so convenient as that in developed countries. There are many shortcomings that are to be corrected by the ministry of tourism, so that the tourism industry will grow and make profit. Many foreigners are not interested in Indian tourism due to risks of infection and dirtiness. If India becomes a safe and clean place, then the tourism in India will become a major industry and attraction. Tourism is a big central ministry, which means that tourism is an important people's activity and a business. There are state departments with a lot of funds and resources. Can we believe that Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand earn a lot of money from tourism.
Often children want to visit the major metropolitan cities in the country. They also want to see Taj Mahal, Himalayas, big waterfalls, hill stations, valleys etc. Elderly may want to visit pilgrimage centers like Varanasi, Vaishnodevi, Tirupati Tirumala, Mathura, Ayodyha, Gaya, Allahabad, Rameswaram, Kanchi and so on.
It is better to plan a tour well in advance and keep in touch with our friends or relatives during the travel. It is preferable to use bank cards rather than carrying a lot of cash. It is important to take care of one's health when one travels through varying weathers. Impure water, oily food, junk food, too crowded or dirty places are to be avoided when possible. One may take some antibiotics in general or especially when taking a dip in a river, canal or pond.
People who travel and tour take photographs or capture their memorable moments with their near and dear with a mobile camera or a video camera.
Conclusion :
In India people make a lot of tours to various pilgrimage centers and big towns and cities. Tourism to isolated heritage centers is perhaps not the first choice. Cheaper or convenient commutation may not be available to certain remote places. Necessary facilities may not be available. One problem that we face in India is that we are dependent on public transport. In many countries people travel long distances by their own vehicles.
Is it appropriate that we boast ourselves of great Indian landscape, long history and its great cultural heritage, but we do not visit our own heritage sites and remember our ancestors for their great deeds and constructions. Let us make a promise to ourselves that we will do tours and travel that enlightens us and makes us proud of being Indians.
Often we inquire the goodness of a touristic place from persons who already have visited that place. It is a good practice to do so. Also, it is useful to find out the weather in the towns we are going to visit. That helps us in taking precautions in terms of clothes and blankets. It is useful to carry some basic medicines. Further it may be good to read some books during leisure or during travel. Great people also write diaries documenting their experiences.
