total number of students = 3000

Find the number of girls :
----------------------------------

number of girls = 40%

= 40 % of 3000 = 0.4 × 3000 = 1200

Find the number of boys :
------------------------------------

boys = 100 - 40 = 60%

number of boys = 60% of 3000

= 0.6 × 3000 = 1800

prize winner boys =10 %

= 10 % of 1800

= 0.1 × 1800 = 180

prize winner girls = 12 %

= 12 % of 1200

= 0.12 × 1200 = 144

Find the total prize winners :
---------------------------------------

total prize winners = 180 + 144 = 324

Find the winners' % :
----------------------------

%age = prize winners × 100 / total students

= 324 × 100/3000 = 324/30 = 10.8 %

therefore, 10.8% students won the prizes .

Answer : 10.8%
