A capillary tube is dipped in water and it is 20 cm  outside water. The water rises upto 8 cm. If the  entire arrangement is put in freely falling elevator the  length of water column in the capillary tube will be 20 cm.

Explanation:

  • When the elevator accelerates from the elevator frame up or down then, The water filled in the capillary is without weight therefore only force on water in the upper part of the capillary will act upwards which will cause the water to rise and reach the tube brim.
  • So, when held in an elevator, the height of the water in the capillary will rise.
  • Water fills the tube completely in lesser condition of gravity i.e. 20 cm.
