During the duration of reaction and application of brake the car is still in uniform velocity..... So distance traveled will be

D1 = u * t

Later as deceleration is applied distance covered before coming to rest is

V^2 = u^2 + 2*a*D2 (here v = 0)

So total distance will be D1+D2

Answer is ut+u^2 /2a
