A person standing near the edge of the top of a building throws two balls A and B. The ball A is thrown vertically upward and B is thrown vertically downward with the same speed. The ball A hits the ground with a speed V1 and the ball B hits the ground with a speed V2. We have, V1 < V2 or V1 = V2

Here the possibility v1 is greater than v2 is correct. Because, when ball thrown vertically upward it act against gravitational force so, its acceleration decreases with time. And, on the other hand when ball thrown downward the gravitational force adds up and acceleration boosts... That's why this happens..
