A salesman’s terms were changed from a flat commission of 5% on all his sales to a fixed salary of Rs.1000 plus 2.5% commission on all sales exceeding Rs. 4,000. If his pay as per new scheme was Rs. 600 more than that by the previous schema, his sales were worth?

Answer:

Rs 12,000

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the sales be Rs a

Now commission is 5% of a = 5 a /100 = a / 20

Again commission = Rs 1000 + 2.5% of (a – 4000)

= 1000 + a – 4000 /40

We have according to question,

a/20 + 600 = 1000 + a – 4000 / 40

a / 20 – a – 4000/40 = 1000 – 600

2 a – a + 4000/40 = 400

a + 4000 = 16000

a = 16000 – 4000

a = Rs 12,000
