A shopkeeper marked an article at 2400. By selling it at a discount of 10%, the shopkeeper makes a profit of 8%. find

1. the selling price of the article
2. the cost price of the article for the shopkeeper.

discount=10%

profit=8%

sp=mp + d% of mp

    =2400 + 10/100 * 2400

     =2400+240

      =2640

sp = cp + p% of cp

or, 2640=x + 8/100 *x

or,2640=100x+8x/100

or,2640*100=108x

or,264000/108=x

or,2444.44=x

or, cp is Rs 2444.44
