HEY YOUR ANSWER !!!.....

Coil of wire is used in an electromagnet instead of a straight wire because the strength of an electromagnet is directly proportional to the number of turns in the coil .So if we use a straight wire , the strength of the electromagnet will be much lesser than that of a coil of wire.

HOPE IT HELPS YOU!!

aviralrastogi0p4uudc: But that's not the reason to not use straight. The reason is that magnetic field due to straight wire is circular and is useless in most scenarios where electromagnets are used.
Anny121: Do u know the reason why it is useless ?...I have mentioned the reason in my answer.
Anny121: You can find the same in the NCERT book
naina100: ok
aviralrastogi0p4uudc: I don't know what NCERT says, but you generally need to have poles in an electromagnet. For example, electromagnets are used in MagLev(the train which uses magnetic levitation) and it needs to switch between polarity of its magnets to keep the train moving. This can't be done by circular magnetic fields.
Anny121: thanks Naina for appreciating my answer.
Anny121: Its a class 10th q. and the answer should maintain its level ...I don't want to fight on this topic...my aim was to help in finding the answer ..and i have fulfilled it.
aviralrastogi0p4uudc: I don't want to fight either, its just that I want to make sure that everyone(including me) gets to know the actual answer, regardless of what any book says. I will be looking more into this and update here if I wind anything relevant.
Anny121: I don't know what your answer had depicted but you can search it in google also if you think that I am wrong.

The magnetic field generated by a straight wire is circular shaped around the circumference of wire. It has no poles.
The magnetic field generated by a coil is similar to that of a bar magnet with North and South poles. This is why electromagnets are made using coils.

Also magnetic field made by coils are much more stronger than that made by a wire for the same amount of current passing through them.
