If the immisible liquid which is placed on the water is less dense, the substance floats and if it is more dense than water, it sinks. Density is the no. of particles present in unit volume which simply is called as m/v. Density of oil is 0.91 g/ cm^3 whereas the density of water is 1 g/ cm^3.
