CORRECT QUESTION:

❶ Aaron is 5 years younger than Ron 4 years later, Aaron will be twice as old as Ron find their present ages.

GIVEN:

  • Aaron is 5 years younger than Ron.
  • 4 years later, Aaron will be twice as old as Ron.

TO FIND:

  • Find their present ages ?

SOLUTION:

Let the present age of Aaron be 'x' years and Ron be 'y' years

According to question:-

Aaron is 5 years younger than Ron

\bf{\hookrightarrow x = y + 5....1)}

4 years later Aaron will be twice as old as Ron

  • Aaron's age = (x+ 4) years
  • Ron's age = (y+4) years

\rm{\dashrightarrow (x + 4) = 2(y+4) }

\rm{\dashrightarrow x + 4 = 2y + 8}

\rm{\dashrightarrow x - 2y = 8-4 }

\rm{\dashrightarrow x - 2y = 4 }

Put the value of 'x' from equation 1)

\rm{\dashrightarrow (y+5) -2y = 4 }

\rm{\dashrightarrow y + 5 - 2y = 4}

\rm{\dashrightarrow -y = 4 - 5  }

\rm{\dashrightarrow \cancel{-}y = \cancel{-}1}

\bf{\hookrightarrow y = 1}

Put the value of 'y' in equation 1)

\rm{\dashrightarrow x = 1 + 5}

\bf{\hookrightarrow x = 6}

Hence, the age of Aaron is 6 years and the age of Ron is 1 year
