The moment of inertia of the wheel is 1.69 kgm²

Given-

  • Energy = 500 J
  • Initial speed of the wheel = 60 rpm
  • Final speed of the wheel = 240 rpm

We know that change in kinetic energy is equals to energy spent.

So,

1/2 I ωf² - 1/2 Iωi² = E where ω is the angular speed. i and f represents for initial and final respectively.

ωf = 240 rpm = 240 × 2 × 3.14/60 = 25.12 rad/ sec

ωi = 60 rpm = 60 × 2 × 3.14/60 = 6.28 rad/sec

By substituting the value we get

1/2 I (25.12² - 6.28²) = 500

I = 1.69 kgm²
