Force = mass × acceleration.
When object experience some net force then object have some acceleration , therefore it can not have constant speed.

yes , the force on the object is zero because
F = ma
and acceleration = change in velocity / change in time
now in straight line motion if the object have constant speed it have also constant velocity because here displacement is equal to the distance and hence if the velocity is constant it mean there is not any change in it so the acceleration become zero
due to all this the force on the object is also zero
