in 1991, a group of women from the Dubagunta village of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh begin to protest movement against the widespread practice of alcoholism among the male members of their families.
The problems arising from the consumption of aracks by the male member of their families forced the government to start a struggle for burning the sale of cheaply cure produced by the government. Their movement was led by an old named women Vardhaneni Rosamma.
it is started with Rosaama resisting a local arrack contractor from uploading liqueur in her village in April 1991.
as a result of this movement, statewide Ban was imposed on the sale of alcohol in 1995. The movement was a strong expression of the empowerment of women at local level. It clearly showed how they could mobilize support an important issue and force the government to take action against the practice that was harmful for the society
