Let the present ages of Anu and Sunil be x and y respectively-

According to question-

x=y+4 (Equation 1)

Eight years ago,ages of anu sunil would be (x-8) and (y-8) respectively-

Now,according to the question-

x-8=3(y-8) (Equation 2)

On solving equation 1 and 2,we get -

x=14,y=10.

Let the age of Sunil be x
Anu's age = x + 4

8 years ago, Anu was 3 times Sunil's age.

⇒(x+4) - 8 = 3(x-8)
⇒ x - 4 = 3x - 24
⇒ x - 3x = -24 + 4
⇒ -2x = -20
⇒ x = -20/-2 = 10

Hence,
Age of Sunil = x = 10 years
Age of Anu = x + 4 = (10 + 4) years = 14 years
