Acharya Kanad, also known as Acharya Kashyap, was born in 600 BC near Dwaraka in Gujarat in a place called Prabhas Kshetra.
He was the first person to whom the idea that an atom, called as “anu” was an indestructible particle of matter had originated.
It was after an incident that this theory occurred to him as he was walking with food in his hand and could not separate the food particles while nibbling them.
Thus, the idea of matter cannot be divided into further parts came into existence. He called that indivisible matter as anu – a molecule which was misinterpreted to be an atom.
He also stated that “anu” can exist in 2 states – Absolute rest and in a state of motion.
