Yes it is true that cooking oil and fats shouldn't be thrown in the drains, and there are some of the reasons for it are :
1) It creates our environment untidy and unclean.
2) It contains hydrocarbons and other stuff that could be the reason for a steep rise of a particular microbe which could cause diseases.
3) It effects the swift flow of sewage ( due to its comparatively high viscosity ) and may cause water logging problems.
