HEY!!

1) Simple distillation

The process can be applied only if the liquid and the impurity differ in their boiling points by 30-50 K. ex. Ether and toluene, hexane and toluene, benzene and aniline etc.

2) Fractional distillation

For the separation of two liquids which have nearly equal boiling points i.e. their boiling points are within the limit of 10 to 15 K (For example, acetone 329 K and methyl alcohol 338K), the process of simple distillation cannot be used as vapours of both the liquids will be formed simultaneously and thus, the distillate will also contain both of them.
