How is the caste system a threat to our democracy

As we know, In a democracy, Secularism is important i.e people of all castes, religion, race and color are equal. So, if there isn't secularism in a democratic country, it'll definetely become a threat to the social and economic condition of the country because there will be no unity in people. Everyone will try to prove themselves superior. In some or the other way, the difficulties caused by this will affect the whole functioning of the country. So, in order to keep a country
well-running, caste system should not persist.
