Resistivity or the specific resistance is defined as the resistance of the material of the unit area and unit area of the croos section. 

S.I. unit of the Resistivity is Ω-m. 

Formula to calculate the Resistivity is ⇒
 ρ = Ra/l
where, a is the area of the cross-section.
R is the Resistance.
l is the length. 

The materials are classified into three types on the basis of the Resistivity. They are ⇒
1. Semiconductors.
2. Insulators. 
3. Conductors.
