You can prove it by dissolving sugar or salt in water. The salt or sugar will dissolve which means the salt or sugar is mixed with the water in the space between the particles.

Take a glass of water and mix some sugar in it after some time u will notice that all the sugar disappeared then where it goes??????Relax it goes in the spaces between the paricles of water so,we can say that matters have spaces between them.
