The northern plains of India has been highly populated for thousands of years.It had its civilization even before it could be traced.This must have been because of its natural gradient that supports various forms of life.
Large flat land: As the name suggest it has large expanse of flat land that makes it easier for the construction of cities compared to hills and valleys.
Availability of water: It has large number of rivers and streams which was extremely essential for livelihood.They had constant sources of water throughout the year.
Economics;As food supply picked up so did prosperity since no one would like to make a home in desert
Food supply: Their way of life as hunters were reduced to cultivators which enable them to settle down instead of moving from one place to another. These areas had high productivity and could support large population with its agricultural produce.
Good agricultural soil or just fertile land.
