We are living through a period of rapidglobal poverty reduction. ... While the overall prevalence of poverty is in retreat, the global poverty landscape is changing. This transformation is captured by two distinct trends: poor people are increasingly found in middle-income countries and in fragile states.

Global poverty has seen a reduction since the 1980s.

Since there has been industrialization in many countries, the level of poverty in such countries especially China and Southeast Asian countries has seen a solid decrement but the same cannot be said for the Indian subcontinent.

The poverty levels have declined in these countries but not at the same pace.

The poverty level in Sub-Saharan countries has increased to 46 percent whereas the poverty level remains the same for Latin countries such as Portugal, Spain, Argentina etc.

An increment in the poverty level has been noted in Russia which boasted earlier of having 0% or non-existent poverty.

Also, the number of people living on $1 per day in developing countries in 2001 is 21% as compared to 28% in 1990.
