A mixture of small molecules like water, ions, amino acids, nucleic acids, proteins, lipids etc. is called protoplasm of a cell. It is a living material responsible for all living processes. Proptoplasm surrounding the cell nucleus is called cytoplasm. Cytoplasm is the translucent, homogeneous, amorphous matrix of a cell, in which nucleus and other cell organelles remain suspended.
