THE EARLY VEDIC AGE
In early vedic age the division of society into different classes wass based on their profession.At that time,interclass marriage was prevelent and there was no restriction regarding the intake of food cooked by Shudras.Women had equal status as men,they could participate in assemblies,widow remarriage was allowed and they could also recieve education.
THE LATER VEDIC AGE
The position of women declined,they were considered as a source of misery,they were not allowed to participate in assemblies or yajnas,widow remarriage was looked down upon.The caste system became more rigid,birth determined the caste of a person and it was difficult to change one's caste.
