if the system of resistors is in series then the individual resistances of the resistors directly add up to get the total resistance
R = r1 + r2 where r1 and r2 are individual resistors connected in series . the system contains resistors connected in parallel connection then the total resistance of the system (R) is 1÷(R)=(1÷r)+(1÷a)+.... where r and a are resistances of individual resistors
