Kingdom of Kalinga had a powerful army. Althrough Kalingas were crushed, Ashoka could never forget the hauners of the battle. Thousands of people from both sides were killed in this war . This victory over Kalinga did not bring him any joy. Eventually, this war brought a complete change in Ashoka’s life. He gave up the war and become follower of Buddha. He spent rest of his life in the service of people. He came to be called as ‘Devanampriya’ meaning ‘the beloved of gods’ion:
