Yellow flame is produced when generally unsaturated carbon burns in air with a yellow sooty flame because percentage of carbon is higher than saturated hydrocarbon which did not get completely oxidized on air .

Blue flame is produced when saturated hydrocarbon generally burns in air with a non sooty flame because it performs complete oxidation of air.
