Displacement can be zero but distance cannot. Why?

Distance
- Distance is the actual path covered by the body between its initial and final position
- Hence the value of distance can never be zero
Displacement
- Displacement is the shortest distance travelled by the body between it's initial and final position
- Displacement can be zero only if the initial and final position of the body is the same
- Eg: A body moving in circular motion

Yes, displacement can be zero but distance because displacement has both direction and magnitude while distance has only magnitude. Therefore, as we move from our home to the shop and then back to home,displacement is zero while distance is not zero. the distance can be zero only if the object remains at rest
