Displacement reaction is a reaction in which more reactive metal displace the less reactive metal.
For example
CuSO4 + Fe = FeSO4 + Cu
But double displacement reaction was occur between exchange of ions
For example
BaCl2 + Na2SO4 = BaSO4 + NaCl

In a displacement reaction, a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound whereas in a double displacement reaction, two compounds combine by an exchange of ions to form two new compounds.
- A displacement reaction takes place between copper sulphate solution and zinc to form zinc sulphate solution and cooper: CuSO4(aq) + Zn(s) ---> ZnSO4(aq) + Cu(s)
- A double displacement reaction takes place between barium chloride solution and sodium sulphate solution to form a white precipatate of barium sulphate and sodium chloride solution: BaCl2(aq) + Na2SO4(aq) ---> BaSO4(s) + 2NaCl(aq)
