hola there,

steps of constructions:
1. draw a line AB of length 7 cm.
2. draw an acute angle .
3. draw
4. mark
5. join
6. from  draw the lines  parallel to .
thus point of intersection of  and AB is the required point P.
such that AP : PB = 2:5

The construction of internal division of line segment AB is attached.

Given:

  • A line segment AB of length 7 cm

To find:

  • Find a point P on AB such that AP/AB=3/5

Solution:

Concept to be used:

Divide the line segment internally by 3:2.

Steps of construction:

  1. Draw a line segment AB of length 7 cm.
  2. Draw an acute angle from A(downward) and B(upward).
  3. Mark 3 equal portions on ray AX, mark these points as A_1,A_2\:and\:A_3 and 2 equal portion on ray BY,mark these points as B_1\:and\:B_2.
  4. Draw a line while joining A_3 and B_2 point of AX and BY respectively.
  5. The line meet AB at point P.
  6. By this way internal division of line segment is done.

Verification:

AP= 4.2 cm

PB= 2.8 cm

AP/PB= 3:2

or

AP/AB=3/5
