Last evening I went to the railway station to receive my friend. He was to come from Bombay by 5.30 trains. The train was late by one hour. So I roamed about on the platform. I saw that the platform was full of people and their luggage I saw the newspaper stall with its beautiful colored magazines. I had a cup of tea at the tea-stall. It was tea for name’s sake only,

It was tea for name’s sake only,I saw some porters, sitting on a bench that was meant for ladies. They chatted and smoked and spat on the platform. Some ladies stood near them. They did not care to get up. A railway official happened to pass by. I drew his attention to the porters. He said that he was a ticket collector, and it was his job to ask the porters to get up. He went away. I wondered at his behavior.

A young wife was weeping because her husband, who was a soldier, was going to the frontier. A fat government official was garlanded by his clerks. A bride-groom and his party were cheered by their kith and kin. An old mother bade a tearful farewell to her son.

The porters lined up, and so did the eager people who had come to receive their near and dear ones. In few minutes the train pulled up. I saw an aged couple welcome their son most lovingly. I was looking for my friend. At last I noticed that he was standing in the door of a compartment, looking for me. I went to him and greeted him. Then we came out of the station and hired a rickshaw and came home. But all the while I kept wondering at the sight of the platform.

Answer:

It was Monday and I was supposed to take train to Banihal from Bijbehara. People were rushing towards Railway Station. There I saw different things happening. I got delighted to see many things and also I found myself in sorrow sometimes. First of all I took vehicle from Bijbehara and it took almost 10 minutes to reach railway station. My train timing was 10:37 AM but I reached a one hour earlier. At station I went to ticket counter and got a ticket. Then I rushed to platform no. 1 to see people there. Some were chatting, some smiling, some people were having strange looks on their faces as if they were forcibly taken there (I found myself as one of them). There was a man there waiting. He was sitting on the edge of bench because there was no space on the bench. After some time another person came and he was gazing that person sitting on that bench brim. I thought that he was gazing at his beard. But suddenly he came closer to that person and greeted him and then hugged him. Then I came to know that they were college friends some years ago. I then thought there is much time left so I came out of railway station. There is a park in the compound I thought of taking rest there. There were few people playing cricket in the taxi stand. They were all drivers that have parked there taxi’s and were playing. Few minutes later Train came from banihal to srinagar and the passengers deboarded. The cricket stopped and the players began to speak their respective routes loudly. Passengers came and take their taxi’s. There was subtraction in player number. The remaining players were those who have got no passengers. Then they again stared to play cricket. Few policemen also joined them now. The police in charge saw the whole situation and he begin to shout in a high tone at policemen and drivers playing cricket. They stopped and were gone to take tea. I came back to station and stood there. There came two women with hot cases in their hands. There were waiting for train to Srinagar as their relatives were in hospital. I was observing their actions and suddenly a young boy caught my eye who was rushing towards them. He was having a 500 rupees note in his hand. He told them that this note was mistakenly fallen from there wallet while taking ticket. They were delighted and so was I to see the young boy giving it back to them. I thought that there are still honest people in this world especially in my KASHMIR. Then came the worst part that I was waiting for, THE CROWDED TRAIN. I got into it but found myself sandwiched between the two persons. And I started to write this article. At next station I got a seat and I was so much relaxed. Right now a person is interrupting me because his bag is on the stand over my head. Now he is gone and so is I until next article
