Humans are responsible for their actions, but if God is sovereign does the role of humans matter if He has already predestined humanity? Of course it matters. In Romans 9, Paul says that God is sovereign and in Romans 10 Paul says that humans are responsible for the choices they make. God states he has predestined his people but He also says He accepts anyone who believes in Him. God’s sovereignty and free will work hand in hand. To understand this one must understand the Bible’s definition of free will and God’s Sovereignty (David and Zoë). In Galatians 5:13 Paul makes a powerful statement saying, “You were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in sinful nature…” God gives his people free will to choose what we do under the boundaries set by God in his sovereign purpose for each individual for all (David and Zoë). In contrast, the definition regarding God’s sovereignty is people are predestined to go to heaven or hell. God’s sovereignty is self-determined (Boa, Kenneth). The definitions given will help in understanding God’s role in the lives of His people and how one can be under God’s sovereignty and still be free. Instead of judging the facts we must know that both can coexist. There are also two extremes to God’s sovereignty and mans free will: Calvinism vs. Arminianism.
