There are many harmful gases present in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. These gases gets dissolved in water when it rains and makes rain water acidic which leads to acid rain .
It has many harmful effects on the environment as well as living organism . It causes many diseases . If a person drinks this acidic water then he will surely fall ill or may even die.

Nitrogen dioxide ,Sulphur Dioxide are the pollutant which reacts with water vapour present in atmosphere to form sulphuric acids and nitric acid . This acid come down with the rain, making the rain acidic.This is called acid rain.
Following are the affects acid rain :-
- It increases corrosion of metal.
- It damages building and sculptural material .
- It causes direct damage to plants and crop .
- It causes skin eruption in human being .
