  • represent 2 on number line
  • from the point 2 draw a 1 unit long line perpendicular to the number line
  • join the the starting pouint to the end of 1 unit long line
  • now that forms a right angled triangle
  • from pythigorous theorem we can find that the length of the hypotenuse is √5 units long
  • take a compass measure the hypotenuse and with the same radius cut an arc at the number line
  • here is your √5 representation in number line
